Summerfest is incredibly enormous and, therefore, navigating the lineup of live music can be a little daunting, especially since it’s so wildly inconsistent from day to day and, at times, from stage to stage.
Case in point, today's music lineup is a mixed bag – Cypress Hill to Fever Marlene, and Papa Roach to Weird Al Yankovic. And, if you’re like me, you don’t want to waste your time on cover bands and nursery rhymes. So, pay attention.
For those of you about to flock to Summerfest today, here are my picks for Day 6 of the Big Gig:
Willy Porter (7:30 p.m., Potawatomi Bingo Casino Stage)
Willy Porter has long been one of Milwaukee’s steadiest singer-songwriters. Though a virtuoso on the guitar, Porter is admirably patient with his audience, which explains why he’s so easy to like—and take for granted.
Listen here.
Guster (10 p.m., Harley-Davidson Roadhouse)
Known for their live performances, humor, and cult following, Guster has shared fans and stages with artists like Dave Matthews, Widespread Panic, and the like. But their live shows have a style of their own, with unique percussion, rhythm and vocal harmonies.
Check them out here.
Sound Tribe Sector 9 (9:30 p.m., Miller Lite Oasis)
An electro-jam hybrid, Sound Tribe Sector 9 – STS9 for short – is known for their lengthy, energetic live shows. Their genre-blending sound is based heavily on instrumental rock and electronic music, and is crossed with elements of funk, jazz, psychedelia, and hip hop, favoring group rhythm over individual solos.
Head over here to listen.
But don't let me have all the fun; feel free to chime in and tell our readers whom you’re gearing up to see at Summerfest today. Share your favs in the comments section.
